Only automotive supplier to host President Obama
ZF offers a comprehensive product portfolio for intelligent mechanics
DETROIT – ZF was the only automotive supplier to host President Barack Obama at its North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) booth during his visit to Detroit on Jan. 20. The company demonstrated its advanced technologies that improve vehicle efficiency and safety and makes automated driving a reality.
“ZF is honored to have had the opportunity to educate President Obama on the technology that is shaping the future of transportation,” said Dr. Franz Kleiner, member of ZF’s Board of Management responsible for North America and CEO of ZF TRW. “The innovations we have on display at the NAIAS support our push of development in the direction of automated driving and powertrain electrification.”
Technologies that were demonstrated for President Obama included ZF products that are already enabling vehicles to see, think and act autonomously as well as other advanced safety systems.
As its first appearance in the U.S. at the NAIAS since the acquisition of TRW, ZF is demonstrating the potential of technology integration by displaying a comprehensive product portfolio for intelligent mechanics. Already the company has hosted in its booth thousands of international media and automotive industry professionals, hundreds of eager engineering students, and looks forward to welcoming consumers during the remainder of the week.
ZF in North America
ZF has been active in the North American market for almost 40 years. The technology company currently has 50 locations in this region – 34 of which are in the U.S., 12 in Mexico, and four in Canada – and manufactures products for the automotive industry and other sectors. The number of ZF employees in the region of North America was 30,800 at the end of 2015; and roughly 12,600 of them work for ZF in the U.S. In 2014, the company generated total sales of €18.4 billion, with almost one-fifth of that sales (€3.7 billion) coming from North America (ZF Friedrichshafen AG 2014 consolidated group sales without the ZF TRW Division). After the acquisition of TRW Automotive, the sales shares from North America will be even higher in 2015.
ZF is a global leader in driveline and chassis technology as well as active and passive safety technology. The company, which acquired TRW Automotive on May 15, 2015, is now represented at about 230 locations in some 40 countries. In 2015, ZF expects to achieve sales of €29 billion to €30 billion with approximately 138,000 employees (preliminary figures). ZF is one of the top three automotive suppliers worldwide.
